Maroussia Hajdukowski-Ahmed holds a Doctorate in Comparative Literature from the University of Paris. She is a professor and Chair of the Department of French, teaches in the programme of Women's Studies and at the McMaster Institute on Globalisation and the Human Condition. Her research focuses on transcultural identities, and on the socio-cultural determinants of the mental health of immigrant and refugee women. She was a principal investigator (1993-1999) and co-chair (1997-1999) of the McMaster Research Centre for the Promotion of Women's Health. She is a co-author and co-editor of Not Born a Refugee Woman: Contesting Identities, Rethinking Practices (forthcoming), and of Women's Voices in Health Promotion (1999), as well as the (co)author of working papers, reports and essays on health promotion with immigrant and refugee women, on feminist theories and research methodologies, on Bakhtinian studies and on fiction by Francophone women authors.

A committed advocate for university-community partnership, she is also active in the community, was a member (2000-2006) of the Board of Directors of the Settlement and Integration Services Organization (Hamilton and Region), and hopes to contribute to the creation of a Department of Immigrant and Refugee Studies at McMaster University.
